What happens when bold ideas meet the reality of building under time pressure and with the support of a strong community?

Techstars Startup Weekend Constanța created exactly this kind of context. Over 54 hours, participants moved from initial concepts to structured ideas, working in an environment that reflected the real pace and uncertainty of building a startup.
The event took place from April 17 to 19 at Marco Business Center and was co-organized by Ambasada, Startup CT Community and Kickstart Romania, bringing together local energy and experience to support a new generation of founders.
From first ideas to functional concepts
The weekend began with introductions, setting the stage for collaboration among participants, mentors, and partners. After a few icebreaking activities that helped people connect beyond their formal roles, the focus quickly shifted to one of the most important moments of the event: idea pitches.

Dozens of ideas were presented, each starting from a real problem and a different perspective on how it could be solved. Participants voted, teams formed organically, and within just a few hours, the initial directions were set.
From that moment on, the focus shifted entirely to putting ideas into practice. Teams began to define their problems more clearly, test assumptions, outline value propositions, and build their first prototypes. The transition from idea to structure happened quickly, fueled by both time pressure and the collective energy in the room.

Mentorship and iteration
The second day brought a deeper level of focus.
The mentors stepped in not only with advice, but as active participants in the process. Their role was to challenge the teams’ assumptions, help them clarify their direction, and prioritize what truly matters in the early stages of a startup.

The mentors involved were:
- Cosmin Pîrvu – Veridion
- George Farăuanu – featherless.ai
- Paul Burcă – Assista
- Cătălin Cenac – OKAPI
- Teodora Moraru – Ambasada.pro
- Costin Sorici – Neuron English
- Daniel Draga – Rarecloud.io
- Cătălin Draga – KubeSage
- Mihai Drăgan – Oveit
- Cosmin Budinschi – Software Architect
alongside other contributors from the local ecosystem.

Each interaction brought a new perspective. Teams were encouraged to reassess their initial direction, refine their approach, and move quickly from theory to validation. What stood out was not only the quality of the feedback, but also the way participants integrated and applied it in real time.
Final pitches and team presentations
By the final day, the ideas had evolved into structured concepts, ready to be presented.
Six teams reached the final stage and presented their projects in front of a jury made up of industry experts. The evaluation process, coordinated by Oana Roxana Radu, George Șerban and Paul Burcă, focused on clarity, implementation, and growth potential.
The final pitch moment brought to the forefront not only the intense work carried out over the 54 hours, but also the participants’ ability to transform an idea into a coherent, well-argued solution presented with confidence.
Among the finalist teams, three projects stood out in particular:
🥇 1st Place – UniEvents
A platform dedicated to students, created to promote relevant events and job opportunities, bringing together academic, professional, and networking contexts in one place.
🥈 2nd Place – RoomMates
A roommate matchmaking platform for students, helping users find compatible people based on lifestyle, habits, and financial preferences.
🥉 3rd Place – City Waves
A platform designed to support seaside tourists through alerts about extreme sea conditions and recommendations for alternative activities when conditions do not allow swimming.
Beyond the final ranking, the real value of the experience went beyond the competition itself. Participants left with a clearer understanding of how a startup is built, as well as with new connections.
